Greater Omaha Chamber, Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership and the Partnership’s Manufacturing Council joined forces with National Manufacturing Day on October 2nd, 2015, in an effort to connect local schools with regional manufacturers. The goal of the organized event was to raise awareness of the manufacturing skills gap, as well as offer guidance on how to successfully develop a career in the industry.

Phillips Manufacturing’s Omaha Production Manager, David Holmes, made a site visit to Beveridge Magnet School, speaking to an auditorium of over 100 students.  His presentation highlighted job responsibilities of the typical machine operators, in addition to showcasing short videos of the company’s many different product machine lines.

Coupled with his presentation, Dave held a brief workshop alongside NECO’s Jesse DePriest. The group activity applied engineering and assembly fundamentals with the hopes of encouraging the Beveridge students to recognize the fun and challenges that can be had within a career in manufacturing.
